The detained couple, identified as Mukasa Jackson and Mukisa Kim, appeared in a magistrates court after the prosecution was satisfied it had gathered enough evidence against the accused, according to the Mail & Guardian newspaper.
Accrording to their lawyer Ladislaus Rwakafuuzi “Prosecutors have lined up several witnesses to testify against the two, who have been charged with engaging in sex acts “against the order of nature”. ”
This is the first trial of offenders under the stringent laws passed by the Ugandan president in February this year. The laws effectively strengthen criminal repercussions for gay sex.
Ugandan police arrested the couple in January as they fled an angry mob, said local watchdog the Human Rights Awareness and Promotion Forum.
