This probably sounds controversial. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson is not the best living actor. Not even close, although he’s nowhere near the bottom. Nor is he the most famous person in the world. But he is the greatest living movie star. As our hero stars in Hercules, out on 25 July, this theory will now be explained with cold hard science.
1. He Never ever Complains
Have you ever heard The Rock moan about how hard his life is? You get Gwyneth Paltrow banging on about how being a multi-millionaire is, like, super tough. Or any other celebrity compensated handsomely for the inconvenience of the fame they pursued bemoaning their loss of privacy, usually in a cover feature for a magazine. Nobody wants to hear it. Johnson acts like you would want someone gifted enormous privilege to act: like he’s the luckiest mother*cker in the whole damn world. This makes people like him.
2. He Cant take Over Any Role
Watch Johnson play the gay country-and-western singing bodyguard in Be Cool and then say this man is not a first class comic actor with the ability to fully inhabit a weird role. The guy has talent. Apologies in advance for making you watch Be Cool, which is otherwise without merit and will ruin your day.
