The Microsoft founder said he wanted to begin sending processing plants around the world after tests later this year. The project was welcomed by WaterAid, which said that it could particularly help in urban areas. According to the charity, some 748 million people worldwide lack clean drinking water. In a video posted on his blog, Mr Gates watched as the human waste was fed into the processor, before drinking the end product from a glass. “The water tasted as good as any I’ve had out of a bottle. And having studied the engineering behind it, I would happily drink it every day. It’s that safe,” he wrote in the blogpost. In the video, the developer of the Omniprocessor system, Peter Janicki, says the raw “sewer sludge” is first boiled, during which process the water vapour is separated from the solids. Those solids are then put into a fire, producing steam that drives an engine producing electricity for the system’s processor and for the local community.<br /><br /><iframe allowfullscreen="" frameborder="0" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/bVzppWSIFU0" width="560"></iframe> The water is put through a cleaning system to produce drinking water. “Why would anyone want to turn waste into drinking water and electricity?” Gates asked. He added: “If we can develop safe, affordable ways to get rid of human waste, we can prevent many of those deaths and help more children grow up healthy.”

<img alt="" src="http://i4.mirror.co.uk/incoming/article4520533.ece/alternates/s615/MAIN-Snake-Bite-Leg.jpg" /><br/>This horrific picture shows a young girl’s leg that has shrivelled and turned completely black after being bitten by a snake.<br/>The snake’s venom caused severe necrosis – the premature death of cells.<br/>This caused the tissue in her leg to die, leaving it withered and rotten.<br/>The 13 year old girl suffered severe necrosis – the premature death of cells – due to a snake bite that was treated with local indigenous remedies for a month before she was brought to a hospital in Carcaras<br/>The 13-year-old girl, who is unidentified, was first treated by remedies from the indigenous culture she was from, according to a photograph posted on Instagram by the username ‘juventudmedica’.<br/><br/><img alt="" src="http://scontent-b.cdninstagram.com/hphotos-xaf1/t51.2885-15/10731714_1489869967956422_1554167948_n.jpg" /><br/>A month later she was eventually brought to Carcaras, Venezuela,for medical treatment.<br/>One doctor, who has seen the photograph, told MailOnline the girl will need her leg amputated but is still likely to die from the snake venom.<br/>Dr Arun Ghosh, a private GP in Liverpool, said: ‘Snake venom is very complicated and depends on the species of snake.<br/>‘But the picture shows clearly severe tissue necrosis that will need amputation, though she still may die from this due to the nature of the poison.<br/>‘The whole lower leg is black, it’s spreading up. Looking at the rest of her body she’s showing signs of muscle wastage from the poison. Her other leg is thin. It’s likely she will still die.’<br/>He added that the necrosis has led to a condition called rhabdomyolysis, in which muscle tissue will begin to die throughout the body.<br/>Rhabdomyolysis can result in damage to the kidneys, which coupled with low blood pressure, can lead to kidney failure and even death if left untreated, he said.<br/>Being treated with local remedies probably meant she was given antibiotics, but not treatment to adequately control poisoning from the snake venom, which contains agents that paralyse the nerves and cause the blood to clot.<br/>Dr Ghosh said: ‘This girl has had classic rural treatment which is often only able to treat local infection secondary to the bite (at best say equal to antibiotics).<br/>‘But she is unlikely to have received anti-venom treatment (which entails giving  treatment to stop blood clotting) to keep her blood flowing through her body.’<br/>The photograph’s caption said the girl also suffered a broken elbow from the incident with the snake.<br/>The bite caused a laceration to the artery in her leg and the resulting bleeding led to what’s known as ‘compartment syndrome’.<br/>This is a serious condition when pressure within a compartment such as the leg causes a decrease in blood supply to the affected muscles<br/><br/>-234pulse

But things she later revealed confounded her mother.</div><br/><div><i>Saturday PUNCH </i>decided not to reveal the real names of the victim and her parents because of the nature of the case.</div><br/><div>The mother, who spoke with this correspondent on Thursday at Ota after a visit to the police station where the accused female teacher had been taken, said after Lydia came home after school, she began complaining consistently when she wanted to urinate.</div><br/><div>She said, “I asked her what was wrong and she said, ‘stone.’ I thought she meant that somebody stoned her and I waved off the matter that she would be alright.</div><br/><div>“But when the pain persisted and she kept complaining, I decided to check why she was feeling pain there. That was when I discovered a wound on her private part.</div><br/><div>“I was alarmed and I asked her who did that to her. She immediately mentioned Aunty Jummy (the accused.) I asked what the teacher did to her and she said the lady dipped her finger in her private part and brought out a stone which she used to scratch her there.</div><br/><div>“The lady is not her class teacher. She (Oyewole) teaches another class beside my daughter’s. I did not understand this and I quickly called my daughter’s class teacher on the phone to help investigate the issue. She said I should come the following day but I decided to go that same day.</div><br/><div>“I reported the matter to the head of the school and while we were leaving, we went past the (accused’s) class. My daughter said, ‘Mummy come, this is where she did it. She sat on that chair and put me on her lap and used the stone.’ She pointed to the teacher’s chair in the classroom. The lady was not around at the time.”</div><br/><div>According to the woman, who was clearly confused when she spoke with our correspondent, the way her daughter was defiled was strange. She said she had to take her daughter to the family clinic to conduct a test on the little girl.</div><br/><div>Meanwhile, she had apprised her husband who is away at work in Benin, Edo State, of the incident. He instructed her to report the matter to the police as soon as possible.</div><br/><div>“The doctor examined her and asked me to have a look at my daughter’s private part. She explained that apart from the wound from which my daughter was bleeding, her hymen had been torn. The doctor said only a state hospital could give a report on such test since it was suspected that a crime might have been committed,” the woman said.</div>

Early this year, Deborah’s father was evicted from his home and he decided to send Deborah and his second child to go and stay with his brother, Vincent, until he settles down.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>“Deborah and her nine-year-old sister were living with Vincent and his wife, Rebecca, in a one-room apartment at Powerline, Jankara, Ijaiye Ojokoro. However, Rebecca was always maltreating the two children.”</div><br/> <br/><div></div><br/><div>According to police investigations, on the day of the incident,   Deborah woke up around 5.30am with a high temperature.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>The three-year-old girl was said to have started vomiting and defecating soon after. This was said to have angered Rebecca, who instead of administering treatment to the child, decided to beat her up.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>A police source said, “In the process of beating the girl, the suspect pushed her and she fell, hitting her head against the edge of a wooden chair in the room.”</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>Reporters learnt that the victim started to bleed from the head. Some neighbours rushed her to Ahmadiyya Hospital, where she was referred to Orile Agege General Hospital where she later died.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>A woman leader in the area, Kudirat Ogunseyi, was said to have reported the matter to Ijaye Ojokoro Police Division after which the suspect was arrested.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>Some neighbours, in their statements at the police station, described the suspect as a hot-tempered woman, who was fond of beating the children.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>“The way that woman beats up the children was very worrying to the extent that the landlord had threatened to evict them,” one of the statements reads.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>  Vincent  told the police that he was not present when his wife beat his niece to death.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>“I was not at home when the incident happened. I am a photographer during   daytime  but I   work as a vigilante  group member.  So I hardly sleep at home,” he said.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>The suspect however said she did not kill the victim deliberately. She said she only pushed Deborah and she hit her head against the chair.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div> “I am a housewife and I have a 10-month-old baby. I did not mean to kill her (Deborah). I only pushed her because she vomited and defecated on the floor. I was only trying to correct her. It was not deliberate. I am a mother too and I know how I would feel if my son was killed,” she said.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>It was learnt that the matter had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Yaba.</div><br/><div></div><br/><div>A source at the SCID said the police were waiting for autopsy. The father was not available to comment. <a href="http://talkafriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/steal.png"><img alt="steal" class="alignnone size-medium wp-image-4498" height="258" src="http://talkafriq.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/steal-300x258.png" width="300" /></a><br/><br/>A 19-year-old girl was tortured for 13 hours by two women after she was wrongly accused of stealing a mobile phone.<br/><br/>Katie McNamara was lured to a house by her former friend Francesca Raby, 18, before her marathon ordeal took place.<br/><br/>During the horrific attack, Raby and her friend Kelly Louise Garrity, 26, punched, burned, kicked and stabbed McNamara before locking her in a cupboard.<br/>The two women hacked off McNamara's long black hair and forced her to lick her own blood off the floor.<br/><br/>After Raby and Garrity were sentenced for assault and false imprisonment, McNamara, now 20, spoke of her horrific attack.<br/>She said: 'I thought I was going to die. They were going to keep me another night if the neighbour had not turned up.<br/>'I kept asking them to stop but they carried on, laughing at me. I was really scared when they were stamping on my head. I couldn't escape - they had locked the front door and there were two of them, I had no chance.<br/>'They cut my hair and then put my face into a mirror and said "you don't look so pretty now". Maybe they were jealous of my looks. I will never forgive them for what they did.'<br/>Katie's injuries were so severe her mother Denise didn't even recognise her in the hospital bed.<br/><br/>Sentencing the two women at Minshull Street Crown Court, Judge Jonathan Geake said: 'That night, possibly affected by a cocktail of drugs and alcohol, you allowed your darker sides to get the better of you in a most bizarre way. It was quite inexplicable.'<br/>Garrity was sentenced to four years in prison and Raby 40 months in a young offenders' institution after both pleading guilty.<br/>McNamara originally fell out with Raby after the latter had accused her of stealing her mobile phone in November.<br/>Later that day, Raby phoned her up apologising and asked her to come to an address in Farnworth, Bolton.<br/><br/>After she arrived at the house with another friend, the two women pulled her by the hair into the kitchen and started kicking and beating her.<br/>McNamara's friend attempted to intervene, but was threatened and told to leave.<br/>She was then taken by taxi to a second house, where two men joined in the attack.<br/>During the attack, McNamara lost conscious repeatedly.<br/>As well as being punched, kicked and stamped on, she was burned with cigarettes and Garrity threw a kitchen knife at her.<br/>A female neighbour visited the house the following morning, where Garrity and Raby showed what they had done to McNamara.<br/>They told the woman they would kill her if she told police.<br/>After being hospitalised, McNamara spent four months receiving treatment as an outpatient. Her hearing has been permanently damaged.

I’m certain of it,’Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters said.<br/><br/>‘This guy’s just a pig. I can’t explain why someone would do something like this. This is off-the-charts weird.<br/><br/>‘We’ll never know how many victims there are because he doesn’t know. We probably won’t ever know the scope of his abuse.<br/><br/>‘Frankly, it’s frightening. [When he talks to the authorities about the abuse] his numbers go from one to three or four to “a lot” to maybe over a hundred.<br/><br/>‘I think it’s fair to speculate that he’s been doing this all the time, when he’s able and had the opportunity.’<br/><br/>Police examined Douglas’ activities after he was convicted of abusing Range’s corpse last year.<br/><br/>They identified 15 bodies which they believe could have been violated by the night attendant, recovering DNA evidence from two.<br/><br/>These were the six-months-pregnant corpse of Charlene Edwards, who was strangled on October 1, 1991.<br/><br/>The second was Angel Hicks, 24.<br/><br/>Crucial swabs were taken during post-mortems of both women.
